1.  Q. How long does it take to create an Absolute Image?

A. It takes one to two months to complete an Absolute Image Painting.

2.  Q. What tools do you use to craft an Absolute Image?

A. The medium is acrylic on canvas. The other tools used are brushes, a straight edge, and a simple beam compass.

3.  Q. How many paintings are there in the Absolute Image Series

A. There are 42 paintings in the series thus far (2012). Absolute Image is an on-going series. Its permutations are infinite in number.

4.  Q. When did the Absolute Image Series start?

A. The continuing series began in 1995.

5.  Q. How and why did the Absolute Image Series begin?
A.The series grew out of my desire to have the two things come together that were most important to me – painting and the complete knowledge of consciousness contained in Maharishi Vedic Science.

The Absolute Image Series arose from the desire to integrate into the visual arts the complete knowledge of consciousness contained in Maharishi Vedic Science. It seemed to me that no amount of intellectual juggling could create a meaningful integration. Although intellectual understanding was an important aspect of the process, for me, a truly complete and meaningful integration could only come about through the practice of painting itself.
The creative process had to be conducted in the light of the knowledge and experience of pure consciousness as the most basic constituent of all that exists. This means pure consciousness as the totality of natural law itself. The regular experience of pure consciousness is provided by the daily practice of Transcendental Meditation. TM is the foremost of the Vedic technologies of consciousness contained in Maharishi Vedic Science.

This knowledge and experience of consciousness, alongside the continuing practice of the craft of painting, was the way forward. This seemed the only realistic way to unfold within the visual arts its ultimate foundation. Establishing a foundation for the discipline in absolute terms both in principle and practice would awaken its fullest culturing-capacity. This means, if the knowledge in the discipline could be made complete, the visual arts could spontaneously begin to align society as a whole with the evolutionary power of total natural law. The visual arts would begin to propel society toward its highest goal – a heavenly life on earth.

This proposed new paradigm for the visual arts based on consciousness has been laid out in my book Art, Consciousness, and Maharishi Vedic Science (see Books and Videos).

6.  Q. Can Absolute Image translate to other mediums?

A. The Absolute Image Series is only meaningful in the medium of easel painting. The series of paintings are solely about the dynamics unique to the structure of that specific medium of expression.

My hope is that others will respect the integrity of this work. I hope that the work will be protected in its endeavor to expand the visual arts. This means its endeavor to bring into the visual arts the new and complete knowledge of consciousness contained in Maharishi Vedic Science.
On this web site I am offering museum quality archival prints of my paintings in various sizes. In these prints of the paintings I have tried to capture the purpose and spirit of the original work as accurately as possible.

An important aspect of maintaining the integrity the work is in honoring its source. The knowledge-base of my Absolute Image Series of Paintings is provided by Maharishi Vedic Science. Thus a percentage of the income from this site goes to support Maharishi Vedic Science and its Consciousness-Based System of Education now being implemented around the world.

7.  Q. What is the relationship between your work and Mandalas and Yantras?

A. Traditional Mandalas and Yantras, both Eastern and Western, are created according to set formulae to produce specific effects. In their purest form, Vedic Mandalas and Yantras are a very precise, holistic science. Their function is to organize – through two-dimensional graphic elements – specific impulses of natural law to support and accelerate human evolution. On the other hand, rather than dealing with these specific values of organizing power in nature, the Absolute Image Series of Paintings aspires to capture the totality of natural law itself.

Absolute Image aspires to capture the universal value of wholeness in its most compactified visual form. Moreover, Absolute Image operates within the Western tradition of easel painting whose overall purpose is the cultural or aesthetic enrichment of public or domestic architecture. Thus Absolute Image acts more as a passive marker in the environment of the holistic, cosmic level of perfect order. Its role, therefore, is quite separate from the role of Mandalas and Yantras, which, as has been said, are used to support and enhance the traditional Vedic performance of Yagya.
